Health Update: Know When To Go To ER

If you have ever gone to the ER, you know that it can not only be stressful, but can also be time-consuming. In fact, an ER visit can cost far more in stress and money than what your illness itself is even worth! People who visit the ER for every little thing that comes up could prevent a lot of stress and save a lot of money if they come to understand the times when it is not important for them to go. Furthermore, those individuals who choose to never go to the ER, no matter what, just might be able to prevent some serious issues if they learn to distinguish when it is actually time to go. Once you follow these two tips, you will be better equipped to decide when it is time for you to go to the ER, and when it is okay to stay home.

One of the best resources for knowing exactly what you are ill with is such websites as Web MD. You can “play doctor” on such sites as Web MD by plugging in your symptoms, which will then generate a list of diagnoses to choose from. As the website lists the possible diagnoses along with all the signs of each particular illness, you can compare your own illnes and figure out whether you are dealing with something minor or something serious.

Another great way to determine the severity of the illness you are dealing with is by doing what you can to treat yourself. While you do not want to just start blindly trying different things and seeing if they work, there are plenty of excellent home remedy resources that can help you try different things for different issues. One really great resource for learning self-remedies is the Alternative Medicine Books When To Be Your Own Doctor. Another such product that is worth having in your home is The Doctors Book Of Home Remedies.

Once you learn to self-diagnose and to treat yourself with self-remedies, you will save yourself the trouble of going to the ER for every little thing. Don’t wait until it is time to try some self-remedies before buying one of these handy books; make sure they are lying around your house early, and always look up Web MD and some self-remedies in these books before making your trip to the ER.

Health Information on Paralysis Act

The Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Act WASHINGTON, DC – Today Congresswomen Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Mary Bono (R-CA) and Congressmen Jim Langevin (D-RI) and Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) introduced in the House the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Act (HR 1727) to improve the lives of and hasten better treatments and cures for people living with paralysis. “We honor the activism of Christopher and Dana Reeve with this bipartisan effort to better treat and, we hope, cure paralysis and other serious motor impairments,” said Congresswoman Baldwin. “Chris and Dana used their visibility to work on behalf of families in all parts of the country who face the challenges of paralysis and impaired mobility. This legislation is part of their legacy,” Baldwin said. “The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation is extremely grateful to Representatives Baldwin, Bono, Langevin and Bilirakis for introducing the important legislation in Christopher and Dana’s names that will advance research into cures and treatments for paralysis as well as for quality of life initiatives to aid those already living with disability,” said Peter Wilderotter, President, Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. “Improvements are made every day in spinal cord injury research, but enacting the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Act will help to quickly and efficiently stimulate even more progress. We at the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation urge quick passage of the Act in Congress.” The legislation, named …
